What we do
Sydney University Canoe Club is open to anyone who wants to paddle in the heart of the city…or the remote wilderness.
SUCanoe is made up of students and professionals, beginners and experts and offers a range of different paddling activities to suit all interests. Best of all, boat hire is free on club trips once you become a member.
New members are always welcome, and particularly those who want to learn the ropes and pass those skills on.
There are regular casual paddles at least once a week from our Glebe boatshed on Ferry Rd. Check the event calendar to see which trips are going ahead.
It’s great way to unwind and meet the crew. We also have regular BBQs, slide nights, and the famous New Year’s Eve paddle under the fireworks.
Pack a dry bag and head out in our sleek open-water kayaks touring from a beach to beach. Or even join the ranks of those who’ve made the epic crossing of the Bass Strait! These expeditions will take a bit of practice and commitment but are well worth it.
For the adrenalin junky there’s the mad rush and flow of the rivers. – but you better practice your Eskimo roll! We have skills sessions in the pool and gentle rivers, and often get out to the Penrith Olympic stadium for hectic grade III-IV whitewater.
For some fitness training and friendly competition get into some distance racing. Training and events occur all year round, including the blue ribbon 111 km Hawkesbury Classic. We have K1 and K2 boats and some members with real experience to draw from.
Wednesdays 6pm with Lane Cove Kayak Club (involves additional fees).
Stick ten boats in a pool, throw a ball, and watch the feeding frenzy. Canoe polo is a high-octane team sport and superb training for fitness and boat skills. The Tuesday night crowd is very social and happy to teach new players.
Tuesday’s 7 pm at Auburn Swim Centre pool (involves additional pool fees).
